Cookie Policy
Effective: 2026-05-23. Last updated: 2026-05-23.
This page explains the cookies and similar storage Math to Machine uses, and how you can control them.
TL;DR
- We use strictly-necessary cookies for sign-in and security. These don't ask for consent — without them the site doesn't work.
- We use functional cookies for your preferences (language toggle, theme, dismissed banners). These remember your choices across visits.
- We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.
- We use a small amount of first-party analytics via our own backend logging — no cookie required.
1. What's a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data your browser stores when you visit a site. The site can read it back on later visits. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") treats non-essential cookies as processing of personal data — so we have to tell you what we set, and (for non-essential cookies) ask first.
2. Cookies we set
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
session | Strictly necessary | JWT-signed session token after sign-in. Without it, no protected page works. | 7 days |
csrf | Strictly necessary | CSRF token. Without it, form submissions fail safely. | Session |
consent_v | Functional | Records that you've accepted this Cookie Policy and the version. | 1 year |
display_locale | Functional | Remembers your language toggle (English / Hindi / Hinglish) for non-logged-in pages. (Logged-in pages use the database preference instead.) | 1 year |
theme | Functional | Light/dark/system. | 1 year |
We do NOT use:
- Advertising cookies.
- Cross-site tracking cookies.
- Third-party analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, etc.).
- Session-replay cookies.
3. localStorage / sessionStorage
In addition to cookies, the Platform stores a small amount of data in your browser's localStorage:
- Resume position in long lessons (so you can pick up where you left off mid-stage on the same device).
- Form drafts so you don't lose what you typed if you accidentally navigate away.
- In-progress tutor message (when you start typing but don't submit).
This data never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data wipes it.
4. Third parties that may set cookies
When you interact with payment or external services:
- Razorpay Checkout (during a subscription purchase) sets its own cookies on the Razorpay-hosted modal. These are governed by Razorpay's privacy policy.
- YouTube embeds (when a lesson embeds a video) set YouTube cookies. We use
youtube-nocookie.comwhere possible to minimise tracking.
We do not control these third-party cookies. You can disable them by blocking cookies for those domains in your browser settings.
5. Your choices
- Strictly-necessary cookies: required. The site won't work without them. By using the Platform you accept these.
- Functional cookies: you can opt out via the consent banner on first visit, or anytime by emailing privacy@{DOMAIN} asking us to reset your consent. If you opt out, your preferences (language, theme) reset on every visit.
- Browser-level control: every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. Doing so may break sign-in or break preferences across visits.
6. Changes
We may add or remove cookies over time. We'll update this page and bump the "Effective" date. Material changes (new categories, new third parties) trigger a fresh consent prompt.
